Choosing Your First Dance

The First Dance is your moment to share the dance floor together for the first time as husband and wife so choosing the song that you will dance to is a very personal and emotional decision.

Performing at weddings as a band for almost 10 years, we've certainly seen lots of first dances, yet each has been unique with its own personal touches. We’d like to share a few tips for choosing the right song for you.

Setting the Mood

Whilst some love the traditional slow romantic dance, many others (usually the groom) find this the moment they have been dreading all day! So why stick with the traditional? Why not have an upbeat dance number that everyone can be involved in? Or how about a full scale dance routine? If you’d still like a traditional touch, why not start slow and kick in to something more unique as your guests join you on the dance floor; Remember this is your moment, so find something that will feel the most natural to you as a couple.

Choosing the Right Song.

Whether you choose traditional or something more unique, your song choice needs to be something personal to you; Try to find a song that means something to you as a couple, it doesn't need to be a slow love song, maybe it's from the soundtrack to your favourite film, perhaps a song by the band you went to your first gig together to see, or just simply a song you quote lines to each other from. Whatever the song, and whatever the reason, if it means something to you it will feel right.

So you've found your song but wait... it's a Punk Rock number, as a band we have on many occasions taken a song, slowed it down, turned the guitars down from 11 and given it that more sentimental feel that the moment asks for. Even if you’re having a DJ, search on Youtube and you are sure to find an acoustic or aca pella version of even the heaviest of songs.

Still not sure on your song?
